With this, there have been some intriguing changes and the introduction of some new features, especially to the Safari browser. However, there was an issue persistent with the fourth beta and has carried forward to the fifth one as well. It’s the inability of the browser to remember the last interacted point. Suppose you are browsing a site, then scroll to its fifth article and open it. Then when you perform the back gesture, you should be taken back to the fifth article listing. But that doesn’t happen and you would rather be taken to the top of the website. This is definitely quite an infuriating user experience, to say the least. Fortunately, there does exist a couple of workarounds that seemed to have spelled out success for some users. Given hereby are two user-shared workarounds that have given a varying degree of success. Follow along.
Fix 1: Disable Ad-Blocker
Many users were able to fix this issue after disabling the ad-blocker extension on their Safari browser. Most of the users were using AdGuard and upon disabling it, they were able to rectify the issue. Even if you are using any other ad-blocker, it is recommended that you disable that as well.
Fix 2: Reset Experimental Features
You should also consider resetting all the Experimental Features back to their default state. There are a plethora of settings inside that section, so remembering the default state of each of them might be a tough job. To help you out, I have compiled the default state of all Experimental Features in the pictorial form. Match it with your device settings and make sure they are in sync (the last value in the fourth column is requestIdleCallback, and is disabled ). As of now, these are the only two workarounds that were able to fix the issue of Safari unable to remember the last scroll position in iOS 15 Beta 4 and 5.
