Forms, which Microsoft set free for consumers in 2020, isn’t going away. But on Teams, the Forms app is being replaced with a new app called “Polls” via Microsoft Forms, with a Teams-branded icon. For the unaware, when your device’s camera or microphone is in use, then you’ll get a green indicator icon of the same at the top right of your screen. This indicator comes in quite useful if an app tries to secretly use system-level permissions without your consent. And thanks to this privacy feature, many users have reportedly caught WhatsApp using the device’s microphone even when the app is not running....
And then there were two. Two supported Microsoft desktop operating systems, that is. As of Jan. 10, 2023, Microsoft will stop issuing security updates for Windows 8.1. (Support for Windows 8 ended seven years earlier, in January 2016.) The Windows 7 Extended Security Update (ESU) program also ends on that date; customers who had paid the ESU subscription price got a three-year extension from the official January 2020 end-of-support date for Windows 7, but the door slams shut once and for all at the start of 2023....
The purchase of Five9 will give Zoom more heft in the enterprise and a way into the $24 billion contact center market. However, there are some huge players in that space already. “The availability of Windows 11 has been increased and we are leveraging our latest generation machine-learning model to offer the upgrade to an expanded set of eligible devices,” Microsoft says on the Windows 11 health dashboard. While Windows 11 is restricted to eligible devices that meet its hardware requirements, Microsoft is recommending people with machines that fit the profile to do it so they can “take advantage of the latest features and advanced protections from security threats”....
The support clock started ticking Tuesday for Windows 11 22H2, with Enterprise and Education edition customers getting 36 months of support for this release and Home and Pro users getting 24 months. As Microsoft has been doing for the past couple of years, it is making this update to Windows available via a phased approach. “Seekers” who want to install it manually using Windows Update will get it first, and machines most likely to encounter no compatibility issues will get the update next....
